1. Confirm you are eligible to participate.
You must satisfy both education and county of origin requirements. Generally, you must have completed at least your secondary education (equivalent of a high school education in the United States), but if you have vocational experience, you can also qualify. 2. Complete the electronic registration form.
Go to the USA Green Card Lottery Application registration form at http://www.USA-Green-Card.com/Application to complete all pages of the application. The information you need to provide is minimal, and includes your full name, date of birth, place of birth, education level, country where you currently live, and contact information (like email address, telephone number, mailing address, etc.). Married and/or have children? Then you must also include similar information for them on the registration form.
3. Provide your photograph(s).
The Green Card Lottery application process requires your photo(s) in order to positively identify you. When you complete your registration form, you receive a username and password to access your Green Card Lottery Application account. You can access your account to upload your photo(s). The program requires one photo for each family member included on your registration form. The photos should be in the format of a government style identification picture, but the requirements are quite specific. You can read these requirements here. But don’t worry. 4. Receive your confirmation notice and wait for the results.
After we review and confirm the completeness and correctness of all elements of your Green Card Lottery Application, you receive a detailed confirmation notice by email. You must then wait for the lottery drawing to occur (usually between October and November each year), at which time you will receive a second notice with your official US Government confirmation number. The drawing occurs after this submission period (exact dates are never announced publicly). But results are announced in May of the following year, which is when you will receive your results via email. All participants receive notification by USA Green Card, both selected and non-selected applicants.
5. What happens if you win the Green Card Lottery?
What will winners need to do? Winners receive a detailed letter with instructions of the additional paperwork required by the US State Department before issuance of your visa. You will need to provide proof of your education, birth certificate, proof of non-criminal background, etc. You need to submit this additional paperwork before an interview is scheduled for you to meet at your nearest US Embassy or Consulate for the final approval and issuance of your US visa. 50,000 visas are available each year, but about 100,000 “winners” are selected each year because not everyone who wins decides to go through with the actual visa issuance process. So if you are selected a winner it is important to act immediately to submit all required paperwork.
