Do I Need a Passport to Participate?

Passport requirement.

Update: As of October 2025, DV Lottery applicants are again required to have a valid and unexpired passport to participate in the program.

You do need to have a passport to apply to the Green Card Lottery.

Only the primary applicant is required to have a passport. Spouses and children are not required to have passports.

You may still be able to participate even if you do not have a passport. Certain exceptions do exist and additional information about passport requirements is available.
