Biden’s Immigrant Welcome

Do you know that the White House and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) have released a video recorded by President Joe Biden to welcome new immigrants to the country? Biden begins the recording by saying, “I want to thank you for choosing us and believing that America is worthy of your aspirations.”

He continues by highlighting the “courage” that it takes to immigrate to America and praises the many contributions that immigrants make to American society, without forgetting to remember his own ancestors who emigrated from Ireland.

In the words of the President,

“Every immigrant comes to America from different circumstances, and for different reasons. But you all have one thing in common: courage. The courage it takes to sacrifice and make this journey. The courage to leave your homes, your lives, your loved ones, and come to a nation that is more than just a place, but rather, an idea. An idea that where everyone is created equal and deserves to be treated equally. The idea that we have as a nation, and we can define American in one word: possibilities. Since the founding that very idea has been nurtured, enriched, and advanced by immigrants like you, and like my own ancestors from Ireland...

Today you've earned a new title equal to that of an American president. The title I'm most proud of: citizen, citizen of the United States of America.

I look forward to standing with you... as you build your lives and legacies here... Welcome, my friends. Welcome, my fellow Americans”.

It is a tradition for U.S. Presidents to record this type of messages to be played in naturalization ceremonies, but this one is by far the friendliest and most welcoming to be shown to new immigrants when they become citizens in recent years.

Everyone knows that the U.S. has a long history as a “melting pot” of nationalities and cultures from around the world. This history applies to President Biden, the current vice president, and many former presidents, many of whose parents and ancestors were also immigrants.

  • President Biden’s ancestors immigrated to America from Ireland, looking for a better future.
  • Vice President Kamala Harris--who made history by becoming the highest-ranking and first African-American and Asian-American female elected to a position in the U.S. Government--is the daughter of immigrant parents from Jamaica and India.
  • The mother of former President Donald Trump emigrated from Scotland.
  • The father of former President Barack Obama came to the U.S. from Kenya.
  • Former President Herbert Hoover’s mother emigrated from Canada and his father had German, Swiss, and English roots.

America truly is the “Land of Dreams and Opportunities” for everyone who has the “courage” as President Biden describes, to look for a better future for themselves and their families.

Do you have this courage?

Each year the U.S. Government gives 55,000 green cards to aspiring immigrants through the Diversity Visa Program, which is the fastest way to become a U.S. permanent resident. Applying to the program only takes a few minutes and can change the life of anyone looking for a better job, more professional opportunities, advanced education, and a more successful future.

President Biden would like to welcome you and your family to America, too! Check out his video, which has played at the end of all naturalization ceremonies in the U.S. since December 2021.
